Evaluation of Kinetic Pseudo-Order in the Photocatalytic Degradation of Ofloxacin

Ofloxacin is a highly efficient and widely used antibiotic drug. It classified as refractory pollutant due to its poor biodegradability. Consequently, it commonly found in water sources, requiring methods for removal. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) offer alternatives since those yield complete degradation not achieved adsorption or membrane processes. Previous studies suggest ofloxacin follows pseudo-first -second order processes, whereas full removal of pollutants—lower pseudo-orders are required. Monitoring the actual “pseudo-order” kinetics needed evaluate any proposed AOP process. This study presents simple procedure AOPs. Photolysis 20 ?M solutions follow pseudo-zero kinetics, with half-life times (t1/2) approx. 60 min. TiO2 heterogenous catalysts have been shown no influence at low concentrations (0.2 mg L?1), but significant reduction time (t1/2 = min) increase pseudo-order (0.8) measured 2.0 L?1. Similar results obtained homogenous catalysis by L?1 H2O2. The combination H2O2 shows additional half-time life 1.2. conclusions (1) photocatalysis can effectively degrade ofloxacin, (2) combined yields higher pseudo-order, being less prone achieve removal, (3) analysis specific AOPs pollutants helps further elucidate efficiency
